When a group of wealthy friends gather at a dinner party to celebrate their hosts’ anniversary, they arrive to find the host wounded, his wife missing, and no clear explanation of what happened. To protect their reputations and avoid scandal, the guests concoct wild cover stories, each lie spiraling further out of control. As more couples arrive, the chaos builds, creating a tangled web of misunderstandings, slapstick moments, and razor-sharp wit. The play is a fast-paced farce that skewers vanity, gossip, and the absurd lengths people go to keep up appearances.

Set in the small town of Independence, Iowa, the play centers on a strained reunion between a domineering mother and her three adult daughters. Each daughter struggles with personal conflicts—ranging from independence and identity to relationships and responsibility—while confronting the scars left by their mother’s controlling nature. As long-buried resentments surface, the women wrestle with loyalty, anger, and the possibility of breaking free from destructive family patterns. The result is a powerful exploration of love, dysfunction, and the difficult ties that bind families together.
