Meet the Cast & Crew of Charlotte’s Web
A Note from Our Director
I loved Charlotte's Web as a child. It was required reading in third or fourth grade. When I was little, I'd visit my friend who happened to own the movie on VHS. “Let's watch Wilbur!” I'd say. My friend was more of an “indoors kid” so the vast majority of the time we got to watch it together. The next day I'd go back to the outdoors, playing detective in the wooded wetland surrounding the neighborhood or finding the steepest sledding hill.
As of the writing of this paragraph, last night I told the actors to picture a stretch of cornfield where the audience will be sitting, stretching tall and green towards the sun around the Zuckerman's farm. I'm picturing the fields of corn, tobacco, and soybeans my family drove through daily along highway AB. You'll hear the sounds of my childhood during the show, complete with frogs, crickets, and birds. I can still hear, see, and smell all the seasons of the rural Midwest so clearly in my memory, though I moved away to the city almost eleven years ago.
Sometimes we find ourselves feeling as helpless as a tiny piglet and we just have to cross our fingers, ask for help, and hope that the universe is kind to us. Will we live to eat pineapple upside-down cake in the sun one day, or are we destined to be bacon, egg, and cheese on toast?
If we're lucky, we turn around and find that the people who care about us have been there all along and are willing to help.
How do we decide who is worthy of help?
What if everyone is deserving? Even a runt piglet?
What if we are all worthy of the support and love we need to thrive?
What if we need to weave a complex web in order to accomplish that?
What if that's something we should all work to give to everyone in our community?
In order to make theatre, all you need is some folks playing pretend and some folks to watch. The scenery, props, and costumes you see on our stage are quite simple. See if you can spot something during the show that's partly made out of dryer lint!
We are incredibly grateful to partner with your local library to bring Charlotte's Web to your community at no cost to you.
Please stay after the show to meet the actors!
